In his long distinguished career, before holding the post of Ambassador, he served as the Principal Secretary to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh (February 2014 to February 2015), Senior Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration (October 2012 to February 2014), Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (March 2009 to October 2011), Secretary in the Shipping Ministry, Acting Secretary in the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Ministry of Planning (June 2008 to January 2009). Earlier, he was the Director General at Bangladesh Rural Development Board (April 2007 to June 2008). Mr. Sikder worked as Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Land. He also served in filed administration of Bangladesh in different capacities.
Mr. Sikder started his service career as a member of the prestigious Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) on 30th January 1981 and has served for a period of more than 30 years both in the field administration and in the policy level. His multifarious experience covers magistracy work, administration, revenue management, secretarial jobs, policy formulation and involvement in law making process, preparation and signing of many national and international agreements, treaties and MoUs. As chief executive of several important Ministries of the Government, he had to attend lots of meetings, seminars and workshops to represent the country. Notable position in the field administration where Mr. Sikder served are Assistant Commissioner, Upazila Magistrate, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Chief Executive Officer of Sub-district), Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Deputy Commissioner (Chief Executive Officer of a District).
For the purpose of representing the country, Mr. Sikder had extensively travelled to lots of countries to attend the meetings and seminars.
He did his BA (Hons) and MA in English Literature from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Development Administration from Manchester University in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Sikder is married and blessed with a daughter and a son.
